The Delta flight, which was delayed for three hours, landed at the Maui International Airport about 7:15 p.m.
ET, a company spokesman told ABC News.
The airline has not released details about the alleged incident.
Smith is being held at the Aloha Police Department, according to a statement posted on the Hawaii State Department of Corrections website.
Smith, who is black, has a history of domestic violence and battery charges in Hawaii, according the Department of Justice.
